What do we really mean when we ask students to produce Academic Writing?
- students often have no ownership of their writing. They are interested and vested by they do not feel like an expert, therefore they struggle.
- some students do not feel like they are good writers, which is a teachers job to drag that out of them.
- students often see constraints but not choices. They struggle with understanding that they have a choice of the way they use constraints or manipulate the constraints to make it their own.
What assignment influenced the way you think about function, process, and value of writing?
Strategy
- One person writes something at the beginning. The next person responds to the previous person. You fold it back so that the next person only responds to the person before. When opened back up it is a continually response. Could be used in response to any kind of reading or writing.
